Applicants should note that if space is limited, previous retreat stays will determine residency, and that 8 weeks of retreat time over the past 3 years will be the guideline for adjudication, with preference given to those who have not had previous opportunities to attend. Preference will be given to Saskatchewan residents.

Applicants who apply by the deadline will be given first consideration although, if there are spaces available, applications will be considered up to three weeks prior to the beginning of the retreat period desired.

Please send completed applications to: Saskatchewan Writers' Guild, Box 3986, Regina, SK, S4P 3R9. Payments can be made upon application; however, payment will be due two weeks after notification of acceptance to the retreat.

Attendance at an SWG retreat is a privilege and all applications are subjected to a rigorous juried process. Acceptance is determined by:

  • Quality of Work decided by the writing sample/visual images submitted
  • Creative resume and publication/exhibition history
  • Benefits to be gained from the retreat experience
  • Ability to work independently
  • Project description

NB: This adjudication process takes approximately two weeks after the deadline to complete. After this, applicants are notified of their acceptance or denial. Upon acceptance, applicants have two weeks to make payments to secure their spots.

Rising costs for our facilities means we must adjust fees accordingly. The fees for this year are as follows:

  • SWG members: $375
  • Out-of-province members: $475
  • Out-of-province non-members: $575

There is a non-refundable late application fee of $35.

Note: As of August 1, 2017 CARFAC SK will no longer be subsidizing artists to attend the SWG Writers/Artists Retreats. If artists wish to apply they will need to be members of the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild. Studio fees for artists are not subsidized and are $100 per week.
