Grain Literary Magazine: Call for Editor

Grain, Saskatchewan’s award-winning journal of eclectic writing, seeks an Editor for a three-year contract, commencing December 1, 2020.

The ideal candidate will have editing experience in literary/scholarly magazine or book publishing, especially in the selection and publication of Canadian poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild, the Editor manages all content and production aspects of Grain’s four annual issues.

The Editor supervises two associate editors, works in collaboration with production and administrative staff at the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild, and excels at working both independently and in a team setting. Knowledge of Saskatchewan, prairie, and Canadian literature and of the Canadian literary community is expected. Familiarity with Canadian literary magazine publishing is an asset.

The successful applicant will have experience in and/or knowledge of the following:

  • selection, editing and copy-editing of literary manuscripts
  • managing the submission process and Submittable
  • production and printing processes
  • personnel management and supervision 
  • print, website and social media marketing
  • grant writing and event planning
  • strong organizational and administrative skills
  • strong financial and budgeting skills

Grain’s Editor may reside anywhere in Saskatchewan. Work will be home-based, with occasional travel required to attend meetings and Grain’s public events. A typical work week averages 20-25 hours. For a detailed job description, please click here: Grain Editor Job Description
