Writer-in-Residence Wanted for Spring 2020 Facilitated Retreat
The Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild is seeking a Writer-In-Residence (WIR) for a new Spring Facilitated Retreat at St. Peter’s Abbey in April 2020.
The Spring Facilitated Retreat is open to beginner or emerging writers in any genre and is intended to include both silent writing time and interaction with the Writer-in-Residence.
The Writer-in-Residence will give a 60 min talk about the craft of writing, intended for writers of all genres, on the first evening of the facilitated retreat. The WIR will also meet one-on-one with each participant (maximum of twelve) for one hour to give specific feedback on their writing and/or answers to their writing-related questions. The WIR will be available for an informal discussion with participants during meals and will host a reading of the participants’ work on the last evening. The object of the Facilitated Retreat is to encourage and offer advice to participants.
The Facilitated Retreat will take place at St. Peter’s Abbey, Muenster, from April 16-19, 2020, with arrival during the late afternoon of Thursday, April 16 and departure the morning of Sunday, April 19. Payment is $1500 (plus GST if required). Private room and meals are provided. The Writer-In-Residence is responsible for their own transportation to and from the facility. A complete job description is available upon request. The previous Writers-In-Residence should allow five years before re-applying for this position.
A minimum of six retreat participants is needed to go ahead with this Facilitated Retreat. If the retreat is cancelled because of a lack of registration or other reasons, no fee will be paid.
To hold a 60-minute talk in the evening of Thursday, April 16 about the craft of writing for an audience of emerging writers in all genres
To review and edit materials supplied by retreatants in their application; to discuss this work and interact with participants in one-hour meetings during the retreat.
To provide an introductory letter to participants before the retreat.
To host a reading of all participants’ work in the evening of Saturday, April 18
The WIR may consider hosting an additional craft talk during the weekend, but it is not required.
To submit a final report to the SWG about the Facilitated Retreat by May 1
Experience in a teaching or mentoring situation with beginning writers in different genres
An extensive publication history, including at least two books
To apply, please submit your CV, the names and phone numbers of two people familiar with your teaching/mentoring ability, and one or two paragraphs describing your approach to teaching/mentoring writers. Only Saskatchewan residents will be considered for the Spring Facilitated Retreat as WiR.
