We know it’s not quite spring yet, but we’re jumping ahead to the summer! The SWG is now accepting applications for our SK Writers/Artists’ Summer Retreat, and new this year, a Facilitated Summer Retreat.
Facilitated Summer Retreat
New in 2019, the SWG is holding a Facilitated Summer Retreat, July 12 – 19, 2019, at St. Peter’s Abbey in Muenster, Saskatchewan. At the SWG Facilitated Retreat, you will enjoy undisturbed writing time as well as time with and access to a Writer-in-Residence. This Writer-In-Residence will give an introductory talk on an aspect of writing, provide one hour of one-on-one discussion for feedback on your writing and/or answers to your writing-related questions, and join in with informal discussion at mealtimes with the other participants. The facilitated retreat is designed as a time for you to focus on the writing you would like to do and to gain encouragement and motivation by interacting with the Writer-In-Residence and your fellow participants.
The cost is $475 per person and includes a private room and all meals, as well as access to the Writer-In-Residence as described above, for 7 days.
To apply, applicants 19 years and older should submit a completed application form, an example of their work (must be a piece they will be working on at the retreat), a paragraph or two describing their writing experience and a paragraph about why they want to attend the SWG Facilitated Retreat. Please see our full application guidelines before submitting.
Although preference will be given to SWG members who have not published a book and who have never attended any of the SWG retreats, any interested writers are welcome to apply. A maximum of twelve participants will be accepted. Payment is due within two weeks after acceptance into the facilitated retreat.
NEW Application deadline is 4:30pm on May 15, 2019.
Our Facilitated Retreat Writer in Residence will be Tanis MacDonald. Tanis is the author of six books of poetry and essays, including Out of Line: Daring to Be an Artist Outside the Big City, and the editor of two collections. Her next poetry book, Mobile, will be out with Book*hug in Fall 2019. She has taught twice at the Sage Hill Writing Experience, and won the Robert Kroetsch Teaching Award in 2017. Originally from Winnipeg, she teaches at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario.
