Denise Wilkinson


 

Bio

  • Denise Wilkinson, who was born in Regina and grew up in Moose Jaw, now lives in Prince Albert with her husband, two teenage sons, and faithful dog. She has spent the last 25 years teaching high school English and Creative Writing. She holds three degrees, all with a focus on English Language Arts: a BEd, a BA, and most recently, an MFA in Creative Writing.

    Denise began publishing poetry and short stories at a young age, encouraged by her uncle who wrote for a living, and later inspired by Robert Currie who was her high school creative writing teacher. In 2013 she discovered her passion for Literary Nonfiction. Her recent work has been varied, appearing in Grain (personal essay), Transition Magazine (poetry and fiction), and River Teeth: A Journal of Nonfiction Narrative (book review).

    In addition to her university education, Denise has taken part in many writing classes, workshops, and retreats, including Creative Writing classes with Lynda Monahan. Denise is a member of Sans Nom, a long standing poetry group. She participates in several readings and local arts events, including the inaugural evening of Out Loud Poet-Tree in Prince Albert, and Friends of the Park Bookstore summer reading in Waskesiu. Currently, Denise is w finishing her memoir, Like Water to Breath.
