Celebrate April as National Poetry Month with our Poet Laureate and Youth Poet Laureate

April is National Poetry Month and the SWG is pleased to celebrate “A World of Poetry”. Our Poet Laureate and Youth Poet Laureate of Saskatchewan have exciting online activities planned.

Bruce Rice, Poet Laureate of Saskatchewan, is celebrating Saskatchewan poets through The Poet and the Poem Saskatchewan. Starting April 1, four Saskatchewan poets will be featured on the webpage The Poet and the Poem Saskatchewan. This series will include full-length interviews, poems and audio recordings of the writers reading their work. The featured poets will include Anne Campbell, Rita Bouvier and Gerry Hill.

The first poet featured is Anne Campbell, whose six collections include The Fabric of Day, new and selected poems, from Thistledown Press. In the coming weeks, we will feature Rita Bouvier whose work includes nakamowin’ sa: for the seasons, Thistledown Press, and Gerry Hill who will be talking about his new collection, Crooked at the Far End, forthcoming from Radiant Press this fall. A program with a fourth poet will follow. None of this would be possible without the support and staff of Regina Public Library’s Digital Media Studio.

Alasdair Rees, the Youth Poet Laureate of Saskatchewan, will share new work through the YPL Facebook page on April 1, 15 and 30th.

Nationally, the League of Canadian Poets has information and activities available on their National Poetry Month website.

Happy Poetry Month!
