The Word On The Street Festival Comes to Saskatoon – Sunday, September 26,2010
Celebrating Reading. Advocating Literacy.
There’s a new festival in town! The Word On The Street is a national celebration of literacy and the written word, and is a major, one-day festival held each year on the last Sunday of September. The festival is currently held in Toronto, Vancouver, Kitchener and Halifax. Saskatoon becomes the fifth city to host the festival this fall. Each year the event draws tens to hundreds of thousands of people because there is always plenty to see and do (e.g. readings, storytelling, literacy activities, booksellers and more) at Canada’s largest book and magazine festival and the best part is all events are free. Don’t miss out!
The Saskatoon festival, including the Preview this fall, will support the national The Word On The Street mandate, which is to promote and showcase Canadian authors. Activities at the Preview include readings by established and emerging authors, children’s activities, a literacy component, and information about the full-fledged The Word On The Street Saskatoon 2011 event.
We thank the following Preview sponsors - the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild and RBC Dominion Securities along with national festival sponsors such as Canadian Heritage and Gildan to name a couple.
