Bringing Back the Buffalo- Aboriginal Youth Writers' Retreat: Call for Applications
When: August 6-9, 2013 from 9am to 4pm
Where: Regina and Saskatoon
Who: Ages 14-22
Cost: Free, but space is limited to 20 participants in each location
The “Bringing Back the Buffalo” Aboriginal Youth Writers’ Retreat is an opportunity for youth to actively participate in writing workshops to encourage them to share their stories and put pen to paper. All Aboriginal youth in primarily Regina and Southern Saskatchewan will be targeted. Arrangements in Saskatoon will be forthcoming.
Youth will be encouraged to strengthen their writing skills, through a combination of writing and art exploration. From doing research of their Aboriginal history to sharing their unique personal stories, youth will discover the blessings that arise from nurturing their gifts and how writing can be used as a healing tool. This writers’ retreat will include Aboriginal role models as facilitators, who share their personal strengths as well. Participants will be creating a number of written literary pieces and artwork to be included in an anthology that will be distributed to Saskatchewan First Nation schools and divisions.
To apply, please fill out and submit the application form by email to email@example.com. Deadline for applications is 4:30 p.m. on July 31.
