Bio

  • Deana J. Driver is a freelance journalist/author/editor and book publisher based in Regina. She is the author of five non-fiction books and the founding partner of DriverWorks Ink publishing, which specializes in non-fiction and helps Prairie authors self-publish. Since 1983, she has had more than 2,000 articles published by various national periodicals including The Medical Post, United Church Observer, The Bottom Line and Lawyers Weekly. Her first book as an author and editor (Just a Bunch of Farmers: The Story of the Weyburn Inland Terminal) was released in 2001. Her second book as an author, editor and co-publisher (Never Give Up: Ted Jaleta's Inspiring Story) was released in 2006 and was shortlisted for Reader's Choice and Publishing in Education at the 2007 Saskatchewan Book Awards. It was a national bestseller and also received an Honourable Mention in the Biography category of the 2007 Hollywood Book Festival, for books worthy of a film or movie. Deana's third book (From The West To The World: The Story of Underwood McLellan/The UMA Group) is the history of a Canadian engineering firm and was published in 2009. Her fourth book (Never Leave Your Wingman: Dionne and Graham Warner's Story of Hope) was released in 2011 and is the inspiring true story of a seven-time cancer survivor who dances into chemo in costume. The Sailor and the Christmas Trees (released in 2012) is her fifth book but her first children's book. It is the true story of a Manitoba sailor's gift to children while at sea during the Second World War. Deana (pronounced dee-na) edits, publishes or co-publishes books through DriverWorks Ink. In 2010, her husband Al joined the publishing company after retiring as news editor of the Regina Leader-Post. Deana's passion is sharing the stories of fascinating Prairie people and unsung Canadian heroes. She enjoys speaking to audiences of all ages from kindergarten students to senior citizens. She uses her own story and experiences and those of people she has interviewed to show the importance of reading and education as the path to a better future.
