www.pawsandpaddles.com | | | Bio | - Born and raised in Germany, Miriam Körner graduated in 2002 from the University of Bremen, Germany with a masters in psychology. Her thesis ‘Vanishing Barriers - Visual Art between Chaos and Order of the Soul’ contributed to the understanding of the role of ‘Outsider Art’ for the development of visual art throughout history. When living in Germany, Miriam worked as a visual artist in the studio ‘Blaumeier’ an open arts studio for artists of diverse backgrounds and individual challenges. Art has always played an important role in Miriam’s live, but it wasn’t until she immigrated to Canada in 2003, that she found a way to combine her love for art with her second passion: the love for wilderness. The lure of the north, visiting wild and beautiful places, adventures and misadventure have become the centre of her artistic career. Whether venturing into the wild by canoe, dog team or donkey, Miriam always brings back an array of fascinating stories and stunning photography. Miriam lives in Northern Saskatchewan with her husband and 14 sled dogs.
Travel features have been published in magazines, nationally and internationally. Slide shows about her adventures have entertained hundreds of people and children’s stories about life with sled dogs have been told in classrooms across the province. Miriam loves to share her passion for writing, illustrating and photography and has taught many classes to adults and children. She has worked as an artist with the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange Society (SCES), the Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District (NSCRD), the Saskatchewan Arts Board and community schools across the province.

- Books for Kids - Age Six to Twelve
- Group Size:Even the most reluctant readers and writers are intrigued by the idea to write their own book. This workshop focuses on the basic elements of story writing and illustrating. Younger children will develop a story together and each participant will illustrate a paragraph, while older children will be encouraged to write and illustrate their own story as part of an anthology. Expected time frame: 6- 8 sessions a 2 hrs.
- Storytelling and Illustrating - Age Five to Fifteen
- Group Size:This is the shortened version of Books for Kids. In this workshop I will tell one of my stories, while the children listen and develop their ideas for an illustration, they will do afterwards. Storytelling is accompanied by a slide show giving the children visuals to use for their illustration. Expected time frame: 2 hours for younger children, 3-4 hours for older children.
