She has travelled across North America working on documentaries that have aired on A&E Biography, History Television and CBC.
Her writing has sent her on a 1,600 kilometre dog sled race up north, as well as interviewing FBI agents in Texas and taking phone calls from celebrities, such as Paul Anka.
Riess was shortlisted for a Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Award, a Regina Mayor's Art Award and a YWCA Woman of Distinction Award.
She has also received the Blue Sky Award in Journalism (2004) and the C. Irwin McIntosh Journalism Prize (2003) from the School of Journalism at the University of Regina.
In 1999, Riess received an honourable mention at the Saskatchewan Sterling Writing Awards.
