Bio

  • I am a passionate writer of other-wordly adventures, a genre experimenter, and a supporter of all things creative. I love to write, write, write. I'm a little quirky, and a little off-centered.

I live with my husband and two daughters in the Land of Living Skies. I love my Saskatchewan.

I believe in perfecting the craft of writing, and blog about it on melaniemcfarlane.tumblr.com. My favourite saying on there is Stretch your boundaries. Push your limits. Work hard. Write better. You can teach yourself. Go from the wanna-be writer who has a story idea and take the path to completing your first novel. It is an amazing feeling. The real and online world around you has many clubs, workshops, groups, conferences and much, much more that will help you out. I am a member of the Sask Writer's Guild.

I grew up inspired by books like A Wrinkle in Time, Lord of the Rings (and of course the Hobbit!), and Chronicles of Narnia. Later in life I fell for Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and the Maze Runner series. My oldest favourite is Ray Bradbury; I have read everything he wrote over and over again. He opened my eyes to Harlan Ellison, George Orwell, and Orson Scott Card. Ah ... my list could go on and on. Some of my current favourites are Ally Condie and James Scott Bell as they not only write great books, but reply to my questions on Twitter!

I self-publish my work through my publishing company, Hidden Worlds Publishing. Saskatchewan publishers are limited to the amount of work they can publish, yet our province holds so much talent, why should it be held back by these constraints. I believe there is unlimited potential for many more books to come from the prairies.
