- Shirley Byers free-lances for a variety of North American periodicals including Prairie Books Now, Small Farm Canada, Prairies North, Christian Science Monitor, Cottage, Grainews, Western Producer and Tree Service Canada.
She served as a contributing editor for WITH magazine for 10 years.
Her work has been included in several anthologies including Best of the Children's Market and The Canadian Writer’s Guide. The Letter, a creative nonfiction story published in Chicken Soup for the Single’s Soul was adapted for television and aired on the Chicken Soup for TV series.
Her children’s picture book, Cat and Mom Story (Scholastic, 1989) sold over 35,000 copies before going out of print and her non-fiction book on weather lore, Never Sell Your Hen on a Rainy Day (Sandhill, 1998) is still available.
Recent commissions include two books on local history and Write Here! Write Now! a Reference Book and Activity Guide on the art and craft of writing, for 4H Canada. Shirley is available for writing, proof-reading and editing.
