Marion Mutala


  • Marion Mutala has a master's degree in education administration and taught for 30 years. With a mad passion for the arts she loves to write, sing, folkdance, play guitar, travel, read and play badminton and pickleball. Marion's teaching and life experiences help her develop unique stories and songs, and her poetry has appeared in print as well. "Baba's Babushka: A Magical Ukrainian Christmas" is a national best selling, award winning book (Anna Pidruchney Award -2010) and is her first book. Her second book "Baba's Babushka:A Magical Ukrainian Easter" was nominated for a Saskatchewan Book Award in the Publishing in Education Category. (2013) The third book in her trilogy is called "Baba's Babushka: A Magical Ukrainian Wedding " and won the High Plains Book Award for Best Children's Book(2014).Her fourth book is called "Grateful." (2014) 100 copies of her handmade chapbook released in November 2015 called, " The Time for Peace is Now " by Happy Leopard Chapbooks was sold out on its release with all proceeds going to Nashi. This chapbook can be printed as a fundraiser for your favorite charity. Her debut poetry book, " Ukrainian Daughter's Dance" was launched on October 13, in 2016 by Inanna Publications."The Mechanic's Wife"(Silver winner in Destiny Whispers Contest and her first murder mystery book published 2016. "More Babas Please!" was launched in 2017 and celebrates all grandmothers in the world.$1.00 from every book sold goes to Grandmothers for Grandmothers organization helping grandmothers raise their grandchildren in Africa due to the aids pandemic. "Kohkum's Babushka: A Magical Metis/Ukrainian Tale " was launched by Gabriel Dumont Press 2017. Coming soon: My Dearest Dido a book about the Ukrainian Genocide,Holodomor , and More Didos Too! celebrating grandfathers around the world.She is available to do readings of her poetry,her books, workshops on creative writing, as a motivational speaker or to sing. She started a group called,"The Sassy Sisters" with her sister Angie and they entertain by singing old time music at many nursing homes or senior places. Their goal is to play at all the nursing homes and community events in Saskatoon.
    In December 2016,Marion created and hosts her own TV show called, " You Rock, A Conversation with Marion" with Shaw Cable 10. She interviews people that are trying to make a
