SWG Awards & Competitions
The Cheryl and Henry Kloppenburg Award for Literary Excellence recognizes Saskatchewan writers who have written a substantial body of literary work. The prize consists of an award of $10,000 donated by Cheryl and Henry Kloppenburg and a framed print of a work of art by Saskatchewan artist Dorothy Knowles. Submissions for this award must be postmarked or emailed by June 30 annually. (If this date falls on a weekend or holiday, the next business day is accepted.).
City of Regina Writing Award provides $4,500 to a Regina writer to reward merit in writing and enable a writer to work on a specific writing project. The Award is funded by the City of Regina Arts Commission and is administered by the SWG. Submissions for this award must be in the SWG office, postmarked or emailed by the last working day of January each year.
The Currie-Hyland Prize was established as a tribute to Robert Currie and Gary Hyland in recognition of their literary excellence, commitment, and generosity to students and fellow writers. The prize is awarded annually by the current editor of Windscript.
The Hyland Volunteer Award has been established to recognize the many achievements of Saskatchewan Writers' Guild members through their volunteer support of the Saskatchewan literary community. Nominations for this award must be postmarked or emailed by the first Friday of September each year.
The Jerrett Enns Awards are awards of excellence named in honour of Victor Jerrett Enns, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild from 1982 to 1988. It was Victor who first presented the idea of Windscript to the Board of the Guild in 1983. The prize is awarded by the current editor of Windscript and is awarded annually.
The John V. Hicks Long Manuscript Awards recognizes excellence in unpublished book-length manuscripts of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction by Saskatchewan authors. Each year the competition is open to a different genre. Submissions for this award must be postmarked or emailed by the last working day of June each year. This award is in honour of distinguished Saskatchewan poet John V. Hicks.
