Groundbreaking Aboriginal Editors Program Announced

News Release
April3, 2014

The Saskatchewan Arts Board, the Canada Council for the Arts and the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild are pleased to announce the Aboriginal Editors Circle, a unique program that promotes the diversity of literary voices in Canada. The Circle supports Canadian Indigenous literature by providing professional development for Aboriginal editors and publishers.

Eight Aboriginal editors from across the country will be selected to participate in the intensive five-day Circle, to be held from June 22 to 27, 2014, near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The program provides editors with peer mentorship, informed dialogue and knowledge about issues distinct to editing manuscripts by Indigenous authors. The program was developed in consultation with Aboriginal writers and publishers and is informed by a Turtle Island philosophical framework that respects the oral tradition and contemporary writing of Indigenous peoples.

The application deadline for the Aboriginal Editors Circle has been extended to Monday, April 28th, 2014, at 4:30 p.m. More information, including application forms, is available at www.artsboard.sk.ca/grants/grant-programs.
