Inviting Writers to Your Library
Saskatchewan's finest writers of every genre share the distinctiveness of their own stories when they visit libraries. The SWG makes it possible for these writers to reach students, teachers, librarians, parents, and readers around the province. People of all ages are given the opportunity to meet and listen to their favourite authors and storytellers.
Who Can Apply?
Libraries may apply for up to three readings per program year (apply 6 weeks prior to your event) by Saskatchewan writers. The writer reads from his or her work for 45 to 60 minutes and may be available for discussion afterwards.
How to Choose an Author
To assist you in selecting a writer for your event, the SWG's searchable online database is a comprehensive directory of Saskatchewan Writers Guild members and their works and includes many helpful author websites.
You may also want to look through The Spirit of Saskatchewan: A Celebration of Books. This catalogue is a joint project of the Saskatchewan Book Awards, the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild, the Saskatchewan Publishers Group, the Saskatchewan Library Association, and Saskatchewan Learning. It is a resource for Teachers, Teacher-Librarians, & Librarians.

How Much Does It Cost?
The Library will be invoiced by the SWG* $100 per reading. This fee is reduced to $25 per reading for any community with a population under 100. The library is also responsible for meals, accommodation, phone calls, facility rental, and publicity. Please do not pay the writer directly. The fee is payable to the SWG.
*The host fee is a portion of the total program cost. Each writer is paid a total of $175 plus mileage costs. The balance including mileage costs will be paid by the SWG.
